“Thank you for taking such great care of me!” Whether it was a patient having open heart surgery, a liver transplant, or someone bringing a new life into the world, it was these words after a critical and successful journey that meant everything to me. As a physician and anesthesiologist for 20 years, my daily life revolved around establishing trusting relationships during sentinel moments in the lives of my patients—negotiating a plan and then providing a service with constant vigilance encompassing the big picture all the way down the smallest details.

Prior to my family’s move to the Bay Area in 2021, I had spent my life in the Midwest. I played collegiate basketball (so long ago!), graduated with a Behavioral Neuroscience degree, attended graduate school, worked in Pharma/Biotech, and then started medical school in 2000 (all in Illinois). It was during my freshman year of college that we traveled to the Bay Area over the holidays to play Saint Mary’s. It was my first time in California, and I was enamored with the beauty—unlike anything I’d ever seen. The topography, sights, smells…it was sunny and warm with blue skies in December/January!! It planted the seed for hoping to be here someday. Fast forward to 2021 after having spent nearly 8 years in Indianapolis and 10 years in Chicago, and the opportunity to land in Silicon Valley presented itself. Now, married and with two boys, we were all so excited to make the jump. We love it here and have so enjoyed becoming part of the community.

I had the privilege of serving the people of Silicon Valley as an anesthesiologist for three years after our move. My wife continues to practice medicine part-time as an OB/Gyn hospitalist at a Bay Area hospital. With our boys growing up and realizing their teenage years will go by too fast, I took a step back. It was in this time that I have been so blessed by old and new relationships spawning opportunity. One of my coaches from that first trip to California in 1992 — Jay Lowenthal, now a Sotheby’s International Realty broker/agent in Nashville, TN — encouraged me to pursue a longstanding interest in real estate. He introduced me to Laura McCarthy with Golden Gate Sotheby’s International Realty, and her graciousness has allowed me to be where I am today. New chapters in life are exciting. I’ve been through a few, and I look forward to help start your next chapter in this wonderful place we get to call home.
